On 6 March 2014, FIFA announced that bidding had begun for the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. Gianni Infantino's visit to Uruguay in March 2016, Uruguay showed interest in organizing the event. The
FIFA Council appointed Uruguay as host on 10 May 2016. This was the first FIFA tournament held in the country since
