2020 census As of the
2020 census, Cannon Beach had a population of 1,489. The median age was 53.2 years. 12.8% of residents were under the age of 18 and 32.3% of residents were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 83.8 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 85.0 males age 18 and over. 0% of residents lived in urban areas, while 100.0% lived in rural areas. There were 705 households in Cannon Beach, of which 17.9% had children under the age of 18 living in them. Of all households, 43.7% were married-couple households, 17.7% were households with a male householder and no spouse or partner present, and 32.1% were households with a female householder and no spouse or partner present. About 35.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. There were 1,888 housing units, of which 62.7% were vacant. Among occupied housing units, 58.2% were owner-occupied and 41.8% were renter-occupied. The homeowner vacancy rate was 2.8% and the rental vacancy rate was 7.1%.

The gender makeup of the city was 46.0% male and 54.0% female.

In the city, the population was spread out, with 17.4% under the age of 18, 12.3% from 18 to 24, 21.5% from 25 to 44, 32.1% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females, there were 86.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.4 males.
