Hartmut Pogge von Strandmann

Born in 1938, Pogge von Strandmann attended the University of Bonn, the Humboldt University of Berlin and the University of Hamburg, where he studied history, philosophy, geography, politics and economics. He completed the first part of examinations in 1962 and was then a senior scholar at St Antony's College, Oxford, between 1962 and 1966 and a junior research fellow at Balliol College, Oxford, between 1966 and 1970, completing a DPhil in 1970 with a thesis on Imperial Germany's Colonial Council. and retired in 2005. He has held visiting professorships at the University of Rostock (1991 and 1992), the University of Namibia (1993–95) and Washington and Lee University (2004).
