Appointed commissioner for the United States court in 1893, Thompson returned to Purcell, Indian Territory. He resigned in 1897 and moved to
Pauls Valley and resumed the
practice of law. He served as delegate to the
Democratic National Conventions in 1900, 1904, and 1908, and as member of the Democratic Territorial committee from 1896 to 1904. He was chairman of the Democratic State committee in 1906 and 1908, and served in the State senate from 1910 to 1914. Thompson was elected as a
Democrat to the
63rd Congress and to the three succeeding Congresses and served from March 4, 1913, until his death. ==Death==
