2020 census As of the
2020 census, Mitchell had a population of 15,660. The median age was 38.5 years, with 22.7% of residents under the age of 18 and 19.8% 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 98.8 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 96.8 males age 18 and over. According to the census, 99.7% of residents lived in urban areas, while 0.3% lived in rural areas. There were 6,883 households in Mitchell, of which 25.3% had children under the age of 18 living in them.
