In 2000, Mazerolle moved to
Australia and worked at the
University of Queensland. In 2006, he became a professor and director of the Violence Research and Prevention Program at
Griffith University, where he would later serve as the head of the Key Centre for Ethics, Law, Justice and Governance. Mazerolle has also been an editor of the
Australian and New Zealand Journal of Criminology. In 2019, Mazerolle moved back to New Brunswick, Canada where he became the president and vice-chancellor of the
University of New Brunswick (UNB). In 2023, he was reappointed to serve at the University of New Brunswick for an additional five year term, which began on July 1, 2024. The following day, it was announced that he would be serving as Vice Chancellor of
