One of the first veterinary schools in Europe, the Veterinary School at Christianshavn in Copenhagen was first founded by Peter Christian Abildgaard in 1773. On March 8, 1856, the Danish Parliament passed a resolution founding from it the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University (KVL). Its main building was inaugurated in 1858. The Royal Veterinarian School moved from
Sankt Annæ Gade into the main building after its inauguration. Initially, only veterinary and agricultural sciences were taught, but in 1863 horticulture and forestry were added. On January 1, 2007, the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University (RVA University) was merged into the
University of Copenhagen and was renamed as the
Faculty of Life Sciences. This was later split up, with the veterinary part merging into the
Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences and the rest merging into the
Faculty of Science. ==Locations==
