Loren Everett "Steve" Owens is an American former professional football player who was a running back for five seasons with the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Oklahoma Sooners, winning the Heisman Trophy and earning All-American honors in 1969. He was selected in the first round of the 1970 NFL draft by the Lions, and became the first Lion to rush for over a 1,000 yards in a season.
